‘Salt and Light III’ brings together the distinctive practices of painters Sara Langdon and Matt Payne, whose works capture the profound essence of New Zealand’s diverse landscapes. Payne’s meticulously detailed depictions of the coastline offer a striking contrast to Langdon’s intimate portrayals of volcanic and mountainous forms, where the subtle interplay of shadow and texture draws the viewer into a deeper engagement with the land.
While each artist presents a unique approach – Payne’s exploration of light, colour, and realism complementing Langdon’s thoughtful investigation of form and atmosphere – their works collectively highlight the remarkable beauty and presence of Aotearoa’s natural environment. United in their reverence for the land, Langdon and Payne’s paintings offer a visual dialogue on the enduring power and complexity of nature.
