This week celebrations begin in Parnell honoring the Chinese New Year. The creative community in Parnell focuses on the the Chinese animal zodiac sign for 2016 – the Year of the Monkey.
For two weeks thirty life-sized monkey artworks will be showcased throughout Parnell decorated by local celebrities and artists. The showcase will conclude with an auction of the monkeys with profits going to Starship National Air Ambulance Service.
Parnell Gallery is pleased to introduce “Monkey Ombre” by Greer Clayton, and Dalene Meiring’s “Josephine’s Technicolour Dreamcoat”.
Dalene Meiring (pictured right) has used vivid colour to create her feminine, graceful Josephine, inspired by the musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”. To find out more and place a bid, click here.

The monkeys will be on display in the Parnell Gallery window 6-21 February. We invite you to place bids anytime during this period using the QR code which will be on display in our window.

The formal auction itself will take place on Saturday 12 March at 6.30pm at Webb’s, Falcon Street. Monkeys will be on display during the day from 11.00am. You are welcome to attend a final viewing and to meet some of the artists at 5.30pm prior to the auction.
As part of the Chinese New Year facilities there will two live Lion Dance performances on Saturday 13 February in Heard Park, Parnell at 12:30pm and 2:30pm.
